Regarding A Way Forward

A Message to the Delegates to the Special Session of the General Conference and to All of the Precious Souls of the United Methodist Church

I pray that we may we all seek to do God’s Will at this critical moment in the life of the United Methodist Church. God’s Will is inseparable from God’s character of Unconditional Divine Love. This self-giving, perfect Love overcomes every difference, distance, dilemma, and division if we yearn for it to flow into our souls in sufficient abundance. God’s Love can even overcome the divisions and dilemmas that arise from the differing interpretations of scripture that have plagued the Church. God’s Infinite Heart of Unconditional Love for all souls is the great truth to which all scripture points.

I earnestly yearn for full equality and inclusion for all people. God loves and accepts all equally in a generous outpouring of Divine Love. I cannot in good faith desire for anyone to be treated as anything less than my equal and as worthy of full inclusion in the United Methodist Church and God’s World of Light and Love.

My heart rejoices in every expression of true love. God freely pours Divine Love upon every soul to freely receive. This simple and profound truth compels me to affirm all relationships where true love is freely given and received. I will not call the mutual, freely given and freely received expressions of true love between consenting adults sin. Giving one’s heart and body freely in true love to another regardless of that person’s gender or sex is not a sin. It is the withholding of our expressions of true love from our beloveds and our failure to freely receive their expressions of true love that is not compatible with Christian teaching.

I am grateful for every soul who accepts God’s call to live according to the Good News of God’s Unconditional Love and Acceptance. Our Heavenly Parent doesn’t withhold a calling upon any soul because of sexual orientation, gender identity, or a soul’s uniquely loving expressions. God’s Divine Love is freely available to each and every soul. I do not support policies and practices that do not take seriously the possibility of God’s call upon any precious soul without engaging in an inclusive and unbiased process of discernment on a case by case basis.

I am not advocating for any of the plans that are before the Special Session of the General Conference. I feel compelled to hold space for the possibility true unity, peace, and harmony among the people of the United Methodist Church despite the persistence of appearances to the contrary. I invite all who desire true unity of soul and mind to join me in heartfelt longing for God’s Divine Love. In this way all of our souls and minds may be transformed so that we may truly be one.

May the Shalom of Christ abide with each of us now and for all eternity.

This is our opportunity to stand for the truth of God’s Unconditional Love for all children, to clearly state the truth that each soul is precious to God and created with the ability to receive God’s Love, regardless of any categories or labels that human beings might apply to each other. The Gospel of God’s Essence of Unconditional Divine Love is greater than any words that any soul or group of souls could ever string together. I will not submit to the errors of the General Conference. I am devoted to speaking and living the truth of God’s Love, even if that means standing in opposition to those who have chosen to elevate words over the Love of God. God’s Love will triumph over the temporary insanity of God’s Children. I am committed to doing my part, and I invite all who desire to live out the truth of God’s Unconditional Divine Love to join me in standing for love, truth, and goodness which must by definition oppose fear, ignorance, and evil in all of the forms in which they present themselves, even when those forms wrap themselves in revered words and combinations of words that cannot be true when they dissolve in the light of God’s Love. Truth is not a matter of having the right words from the right books. Truth is a matter of having a heart transformed by the power of God’s Love. And those who love the truth must stand for and with those who suffer under the oppression, abuse, and violence of those who would use words as weapons and instruments of violence. We must hold our ground in the face of those who would seek to control others from the fears that rule their hurting hearts and troubled minds. I encourage all who seek truth and love to stand with one another until the lost are found and the broken are healed.

My soul resonates with what you have written about God’s unconditional love for all. We are all God’s children. May we all find a sense of belonging as brothers and sisters in coming to this realization. Thank you for your declaration and humility.
